Brampton Deanery is situated to the north east of the Diocese of Carlisle and covers
a large area from Penrith in the middle of the county to the far north of the county
bordering on Scotland.
The parishes are generally small and fairly widespread, this
makes the sharing of parishes for incumbents fairly difficult, as distances to be
covered are obviously greater than in an urban setting.
The deanery contains 29 churches
divided up into benefices of two, three or four churches plus one large team ministry
in the Brampton area.
Newly resident in Brampton Deanery are the Revd’s Philip Greenhalgh in the Benefice
of Bewcastle and Stapleton, and Kirklinton with Hethersgill and Russell Tague in
the Benefice of the Esk Parishes (Arthuret with Kirkandrews-
This year the deanery has discussed several issues such as Health and Safety, the
Anglican / Methodist Covenant and were pleased to receive a talk by Canon Bryan Rowe
on the role of the deanery. In the future we want to look at forming links with overseas
partners.
